The Student Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for strategic recruitment for the purpose of informing future activities and admission practices by providing advising, recruitment, yield conversion, and liaison services to students seeking undergraduate admission to ECU. The role plans, executes and assesses recruiting and yield conversion services at a variety of educational, community, and professional settings domestically and internationally to recruit well qualified, prospective undergraduate students to ECU and evaluates prospective student applications and art portfolios for admissions to all programs. The position participates in the development and leads the implementation of a recruitment and yield conversion strategy (international or national) in support of fulfilling the annual student enrolment goals of ECU’s strategic enrolment management plan. The role engages and builds relationships with partners across the University; collaborates and provides input on key issues and initiatives such as admission, eligibility and institutional level student services policies and processes. This position oversees the campus tours program, evolving this program as the strategic plan develops.

Some Typical Duties:
  • In consultation with the Registrar & Executive Director of Enrolment and other key partners, participates in the development and leads the implementation of an annual recruitment and yield conversion strategy in support of fulfilling the annual student enrolment goals of ECU’s strategic enrolment plan. 
  • Executes the recruitment strategy, analyzes the enrolment data, compiles and reviews reports, analyzes market trends, and evaluates and makes recommendations to the Student Services Leadership Team.
  • In consultation with Marketing and Communications and Academic leadership, develops and maintains a proactive communications plan, including effective use of social media to build awareness, generate leads, promote events, and ensure access to relevant information to prospective students. 
  • Develops targeted recruitment and partnership strategies within identified schools, language schools, community colleges, universities, and professional networks domestically and internationally.
  • Works in collaboration with Continuing Studies to develop, plan and execute provincial key feeder high school recruitment activities in support of prospective student engagement for pre-degree, transition, credit and non-credit pathways and programs.
  • Plans appropriate recruitment activities, webinars and programs including oversight for development, training and delivery of recruitment events and presentations at international education fairs, National Portfolio Day events and high schools or other international and domestic venues.
  • Acting as an institutional resource on undergraduate admission through a significant knowledge of Senate-mandated admission policy, practices and procedures and applying this knowledge and understanding in responding appropriately to inquiries. 
  • Providing students seeking admission with accurate advice on their admissibility to their choice of program and campus.
  • Exercises independent judgment and analysis to determine an applicants’ admissibility to specific university programs based on their unique and complex academic history without access to an escalation point, standard operation procedure, or university resources when travelling. 
  • Develops and maintains a network of contacts and resources in the university to keep up to date on changes relating to all academic programs to appropriately refer students to ECU services.
  • Recommends, develops, and maintains effective, collaborative relationships with other universities and provincial, federal, and international agencies and organizations.
  • Participates on and reports to relevant University committees (e.g. Senate Admissions Committee, etc.), professional associations and external networks (i.e. AICAD Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design, PSBC Post-Secondary Institutes of BC, NPDA National Portfolio Day Association and BC Art Teachers Association, etc.).
  • Utilizes data management systems to obtain information on the status of a student’s inquiry or application for advising purposes, including preparing targeted communications through the CRM to proactively communicate with prospective students to build relationships and encourage interest in ECU.  
  • Supports the Registrar with the development of new policies relating to recruitment by researching promising practices in the field.
  • Leads, schedules, and supervises student monitors, staff and faculty recruiters, including setting goals and monitoring performance and outcomes. Selects and trains staff as required. 
  • Attends professional development seminars and workshops.
  • Assists the Student Services leadership team with special projects and initiatives as well as with related functions contributing to the successful operation of Student Services.
  • Supports Admissions during busy admissions times by assisting with email correspondence, data entry, student file creation and evaluation, and other duties as requested.
  • Fosters a culture of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) by remaining current in JEDI trends that impact their field of work and make recommendations to the Registrar + Executive Director of Enrolment for improvements in support of the ECU community, and the strategic goals of the University.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum five years of related experience, including two years of management experience in a higher education setting.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in assessing academic and artistic admissibility and recruitment related activities.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a motor-vehicle for business travel.
  • Valid passport and ability to gain entry to countries internationally.
  • Excellent in-depth knowledge of Canadian, international, and post-secondary education systems.
  • Proven experience in using office and enterprise level systems (e.g. MS 365, Colleague, Slate).
  • Extensive knowledge of university policies and regulations related to student admission, academic programming, academic advising, and services.
  • Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector check required upon employment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate, plan, and execute recruitment and yield conversion strategies.
  • Demonstrated record of achievement in advancing institutional objectives within a strategic enrolment management framework.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team management, advanced problem-solving, interpersonal, and communications skills.
  • Proven ability to deal effectively with a diverse population, including students, faculty, administrators, counselors, and support Staff.
  • Demonstrated commitment to justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
  • Excellent presentation and intercultural communication skills (verbal, written and presentation). 
  • Ability to critique art work is essential.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively (internationally and domestically). with minimum supervision for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to promote ECU effectively to students, parents, and educational representatives and to establish positive working relationships internally and with a variety of external agencies’ representatives. 
  • Excellent cross-cultural competency and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in a second language is an asset.
