Position Title Continuing Studies Instructor – Software Essentials
Job Summary
The Continuing Studies Department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking experienced IT professionals, Trainers, Graphic Designers/Illustrators and specialized software experts to join our team of instructors. We encourage individuals with expertise in computer basics, and expert knowledge in the following software(s) to apply: 
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Adobe Illustrator
  • Adobe InDesign
  • Adobe Premiere Pro 
  • Adobe After Effects 
  • Adobe 3DSMax 
  • Autodesk Maya 
  • Blender 
  • Houdini  

Applicants should anticipate a range of students from various disciplines and backgrounds looking for practical insight on software, including the latest features and best practices.  Successful applicants will be added to our pool of Continuing Studies educators who are contracted per term. 
 
 ECU Continuing studies adult and/or youth individual courses are scheduled per term, once per week on weekday evenings and/or weekends, and may be offered in person or online. Continuing Studies instructors are contracted to teach at an hourly rate of $76.00.  

Instructional contracts involve: 
  • Preparing course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments and activities suitable for online and/or on-campus learning
  • Preparing, populating and updating course content and resources in Moodle, Emily Carr’s Learning Management System (LMS). 
  • Supporting diverse student learning experiences, providing proactive feedback and guidance, completing assessments, and inputting grades 
  • Regularly communicating and collaborating with CS Administration and CS Technicians
Required Qualifications
Applicants with a degree or experience in a relevant field, such as IT, UX/UI, Graphic Design, Illustration, Animation, Photography, Game Development or VFX, and/or a combination of comparable professional experience is an asset. 

We are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:
  • 3 years of relevant experience utilizing a range of software in practical applications and projects
  • Effective communication skills in explaining foundational computer concepts are required
  • In-depth understanding of how software applications work separately and together
  • Experience troubleshooting software issues and teaching end-users how to utilize computer programs efficiently is a considerable asset
  • Knowledge in digital output such as: file exporting methods, printing, multimedia file formats for digital production
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to explain technical concepts in a clear, concise manner
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods for different learning styles and to stay updated with evolving software trends
  • Demonstrated patience when instructing learners with diverse skill levels, creative practices, and education backgrounds
  • Demonstrated passion in supporting the artistic community in real-world applications
  • Experience developing lesson plans and preparing content for online and/or on-campus 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous training or teaching experience
  • Certifications in specific software or tools
  • Experience with online education (including Moodle and Zoom) an asset.
