Position Title Continuing Studies Instructors – Game Development
Job Summary
The Continuing Studies Department at Emily Carr University of Art + Design is seeking experienced motion designers, visual effects artists, technical artists, producers, and project leads to join our team of instructors. 

We encourage individuals with expertise and practices prioritizing one or more of the following Game Development skills to apply:
  • 2D Game Development
  • 3D Game Development
  • Visual Effects for Games
  • 3D Art Assets
  • Design Thinking for Games
  • UX for Games
  • UI for Games
  • Rendering for Games
  • Visual Effects and Motion Graphics
  • 3D CAD drawing
  • Software and tools including Maya, Houdini, Blender, Zbrush, Photoshop, SolidWorks, Adobe After Effects, Unity

Successful applicants will be added to our pool of Continuing Studies educators who are contracted per term. 

ECU Continuing studies adult and/or youth individual courses are scheduled per term, once per week on weekday evenings and/or weekends, and may be offered in person or online. Continuing Studies instructors are contracted to teach at an hourly rate of $76.00.

Instructional contracts involve:
  • Preparing course syllabi, lesson plans, assignments and activities suitable for online and/or on-campus learning
  • Preparing, populating and updating course content and resources in Moodle, Emily Carr’s Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Supporting diverse student learning experiences, providing proactive feedback and guidance, completing assessments, and inputting grades 
  • Regularly communicating and collaborating with CS Administration and CS Technicians 

Required Qualifications
Position Qualifications: 
Individuals should have a degree and/or professional experience in VFX, Game Development and/or Technical Arts, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference is given to those with prior experience and demonstrated passion for teaching at a post-secondary level. Master’s degree is preferred but not required. 

We are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:
  1. Expert knowledge in current Visual Effects practices and tools
  2. Experience with concept development, diverse creative processes, and project development
  3. Considerable knowledge of critique and feedback strategies
  4. Experience working with adult learners from diverse creative, cultural, and educational backgrounds
  5. Experience using adaptive and inclusive student engagement methods
  6. Strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;
  7. Experience developing lesson plans and preparing content for online and/or on-campus learning an asset
  8. Post-secondary teaching experience a significant asset
  9. Experience with online education (including Moodle and Zoom) an asset. 
  10. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and G-Suite an asset
Preferred Qualifications
Continuing Studies offers support in the form of group workshops, standardized worksheets and individual meetings to assist in the process of course development and instruction.
